Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we had lots of chemistry to cover! We spent a good deal amount of time working together on the lab, but she quickly understood the concepts and after she understood, she maneuvered quickly and easily through the problems. We then turned to work on her homework assigned from today's class, which were topics we briefly reviewed several times the last times I visited with her. The homework was all completed, but I know that next time we meet, we would definitely need to review more on detail of the topics we went over today, so that she can continue to get 100% on her quizzes!"
"The student is gradually understanding the concepts behind organic chemistry. We went over alkene reactions and working out the mechanisms behind them. We went over the differences between Markovnikov and Anti-Markovnikov reactions with rearrangement possibilities. We also revisited E1 vs SN1 reactions. The main thing that I've been emphasizing to him is that with organic chemistry, it's not about memorizing what the product will be, but rather, understanding the concepts behind it and using those concepts to logically lead to the correct product. Next session, we will be covering how to differentiate SN/E reactions, finish alkene reactions, and review chair conformations. The student has a test next Friday, so we are trying to work as hard as we can to prepare for his test. I gave him a worksheet to do that should prepare him for our next session."
"The focus of this session was working through proton/carbon NMR questions as well as introducing mass spectrometry. The student is sufficiently familiar with the fundamentals of NMR and further practice from his lecture will be enough for him to master the more difficult practice problems."
