Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The lesson focused on completing written homework assignments for chapters 7 and 8. The material included the geometry and bond angles of molecular compounds, covalent and ionic bonding, nomenclature, Lewis dot structures, determining the number of atomic valence electrons, and the most common ionization valences of atoms. In our next meeting, we should be able to finish up chapter 9 and move on to chapter 10."
"At today's session, the student and I went over the concepts of the mole, molar mass, and dimensional analysis. We spent extensive time going over converting from grams to moles, and from moles to grams. I had the student complete several practice problems from worksheets I found online. Additionally, we watched a few tutorial videos that discussed this problem solving process. The student appeared to struggle initially with this process. However, after doing several problems, he appeared to get the hang of it. He took 2 quizzes this week. He scored a 5.5/12 on one, and 12.5/14 on the other. We went over both quiz papers, and he understood all of the mistakes he made. I gave the student additional worksheets to complete this week for homework."
"Today, we reviewed gases in anticipation of an upcoming test. We went over the concept of what an ideal gas was. I also elaborated on what the kinetic molecular theory was, and what that means for an ideal gas. We also went over several practice problems utilizing the ideal gas law. She appeared generally fine doing the set-up for equations. We also covered additional topics such as diffusion rates, partial pressures, and vapor pressures. She appeared comfortable with these topics."
