Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and tutor met and talked about the CVC word generator that the student practiced with at home. The student feels confident in making and sounding out CVC words. The student will bring in "My Story" to session on Thursday to review. The student read "My New Boy" (level G guided reading) book aloud while sounding out new or unfamiliar words. The student and tutor reviewed "magic e" words found in the book after completion. The student then was instructed to make sounds for the following flash cards: long and short vowels, consonants, and diagraphs. The tutor and student then played a game where student matched pictures to each flash card and glued picture to the back. The student was given the completed flash cards to take home and practice. The student then read "A Bug, a Bear, and a Boy" (level F guided reading) which student completed with mastery, sounding out a few new words. The student continues to excel in reading comprehension and use of story context clues to inform reading. At next session, student and tutor will review "My Story" that student has written and will talk about long vowels created when 2 vowels are together."
"The student had a good session last night. We worked through math, reading, and word study at a solid pace and she was both positive and patient during our time together. During her math assignment, which consisted of complex addition and subtraction problems, she remained focused and was able to complete the assignment in a timely manner. We then worked on fifteen minutes of reading and comprehension, drilling from one of her school books. Finally, she did well in her synonym word study exercise. I am pleased with her progress, especially regarding her enthusiasm, and look forward to tomorrow's session."
"We completed her writing homework assignment about a rainy day. We also worked on long vowels and sorting words based on their vowel sound. We still need to work on ee, ea, and ui sounds. Also, continue to work on reading comprehension."
