"We went over multiplying 1st degree polynomials. For example (x-2)(3x+4). In French, we briefly went over the verbs entendre, attendre, and perdre."
"In this lesson, the student practiced her addition skills. We started off with her practicing solving math problems in which she added two a digit number to a one digit number. After this, we practiced comparing numbers by having her identify and draw the sign correctly to show if one number was greater than or less than another number. Next, I showed her how to solve addition problems with regrouping (carrying over). I modeled a few problems for her, then she practiced several problems. I had her explain to me what she was doing and why throughout the practice, to make sure she understood how to solve these types of problems. About halfway through the regrouping practice, we practiced addition flashcards. We did 3 rounds, seeing how many flashcards she could correctly complete in a minute. She improved every round, in the end answering 10 flashcards correctly in 1 minute. We ended the lesson practicing addition word problems. She did very well today with everything we tried. She picked up on the regrouping quickly and answered almost every problem correctly on the first try. Throughout the session I also had her practice counting on to add, instead of having to draw a picture every time."
"Today, I introduced the student to vectors, vector sums unit vectors, column vectors, inverse vector and parallel vector."
"During today's lesson we used equivalent fractions as a strategy to add and subtract fractions. We also practiced applying and extending previous understandings of multiplication and division to multiply and divide fractions."
"We reviewed homework and worked through remainder of previous year's exam, explaining any questions the student had problems with. We used the remaining time to review transformations and applied vector problems. She continues to show improvement. She has a solid grasp of most of the concepts she needs for the test. I'm working on building confidence and time-management strategies. Good session!"
"Today the student completed word problems for her summer math assignment. She worked them all out on her own with some assistance from me. I helped her with one word problem that asked her to list the multiples of 6 and the factors of 72. I reminded her what both of those definitions meant and she was able to answer the rest of the word problem by herself. I assigned her three CML word problems during the last fifteen minutes of our session. She completed them on time and only had a minor mistake to correct. For homework I asked her to look over her packet and correct any mistakes I circled. We are meeting again on Thursday and I will introduce some fifth grade topics to her."
