Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Tina in Richardson, TX
We worked on basic math skills. We also did a worksheet on analogies and putting the right word to the definition. The student has a new project this month, so we brainstormed ideas and made notes and diagrams to support the concept which is a board game based on the book she read. There will be lots of components.

The student was great today. We worked on his reading/ comprehension skills which came easily for him. We're also focusing on building his confidence when reading by playing various reading games. Finally, we worked on reading sentences and asking him to describe what he's reading. The goal is to increase his fondness for reading and to also work his imagination/ creativity.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Laura in Richardson, TX
Tonight we practiced the student's spelling words with the rule of R controlled vowels (ir, ear, er, or). She was able to identify and correct the words she initially spelled incorrectly. By the end of the lesson she was spelling all words correctly. We also reviewed the student's writing homework assignment by creating a topic and conclusion sentence to go with an already established paragraph and then we added supporting details to an established topic and concluding sentence.

Study Skills and Organization Tutoring review by Julie in Richardson, TX
We started the session by completing her language arts assignment where she had to come up with 10 nouns, 5 pronouns, and 5 verbs from the first chapter of the book titled, "On My Honor". After some brainstorming and research on which words can be categorized as pronouns, she was able to complete her assignment successfully. We proceeded to her math assignment, which is the subject that always takes a good portion, if not the majority of our session time. Today the assignment focused on the surface areas of prisms and pyramids. She was able to eventually get all the correct answers, but it took some time for her compute how each side needed to be included in order to get the final accurate answer. At the end of the assignment, she was showing that she was becoming sufficiently familiar with finding the surface area of three dimensional objects. Then we proceeded to discuss her social studies quiz for tomorrow, and whether there was any material that she needed to cover more closely. She said that she felt prepared. Finally, I asked that she finish her reading assignment on her own. Tomorrow, we will spend time reviewing newer math concepts from this week and do a brief review for her upcoming math assessment exams.

Today we brainstormed for the student's Night project which will be a series of letters from an inmate at a prison which show the trajectory of the person's psyche using themes from Night. The student is going to do more research on the conditions at this prison and what a prisoner might have to do to land himself there. Also, he received all of his grades for 3rd quarter and they have all increased by at least 1/2 a grade or more!
