Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student and I met for our second session. We focused heavily on the verbs ir, tener, querer, necesitar, poder, and gustar. We did translation exercises using the verbs where I provided an English statement and the student had to respond with the correct translation in Spanish. We then moved on to practice several examples with the verb gustar and differentiated how this verb is used in the singular form and the plural form. We then moved on to a brief introduction to ser/estar and talked about their uses (temporary vs permanent characteristics). We then incorporated vocabulary terms from his index cards and practiced creating complex sentences. We will do more review on subject pronouns and discuss when they should be used, and we will continue to work on building vocabulary and working on pronunciation."
"The student and I continued to study all of the vocabulary, which will be on his final as well as grammar. He did very well and benefited from using the words in context and creating his own sentences using the grammar. We also looked over his assignment for tomorrow."
"We went over her skit that she has for class. We corrected any grammatical errors then read it over twice to help her with her pronunciation and speech. Her speech has definitely improved a lot and she seems more comfortable finding the breathing spaces between each phrase. We will be working on her three minute presentation coming up next week this Friday."
"The student has an oral in Spanish tomorrow where she has to present on a character from La Casa de Bernarda, a play by Federico Garcia Lorca. We researched Magdalena, her character, and analyzed her physical characteristics, character, relationships, and importance in the work. She will also make a PowerPoint using the quotes and information gathered and present tomorrow in class."
"We prepared for the student's oral exam tomorrow. We covered the subjects that his teacher gave him for review, brainstorming phrases and important vocabulary that he can use tomorrow. Then we did a practice exam, where he answered the sort of questions he will see on his test."
"We reviewed and practiced prepositions, zu, nach, entlang, etc. We also read and explained a "real life" scenario at an airport with vocabulary, expressions, prepositions and some forms of subjunctives."
