Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We completed material in physics (electrical fields and forces, circuits), organic chemistry (properties of functional groups), and chemistry (periodic trends, acid/base reactions, titrations). For the most part, the student knew the content of organic chemistry, but had a bit of difficult time particularly with acid/base titration chemistry and with applying the correct formulas and relationships to circuit diagrams. Part of that difficulty was because she did not recall the equations and their appropriate use, which can be solved simply by more practice. She expects to receive her review books by next week and we will start to do problems out of them."
"Continued with inclined planes, then covered pulley systems on flat surfaces and inclined planes (with and without friction)."
"Today, the student and I covered concepts in kinematics and work/energy, completed high-yield problems in physics and biology. The student also completed a lecture exam on kinematics and reviewed the answers."
"Went over some basic chemistry concepts, including ideal gas law application, phase changes, colligative properties, and structures of crystalline solids."
"Reviewed kinetics, equilibrium and thermodynamics. Answered questions in regards to previous topics and practice questions."
"We reviewed MCAT verbal strategies, worked through physics topics, and talked about organic chemistry and rate laws."
"This session we reviewed biological sciences material and went over the section the student had taken. I showed her how to break down passages and questions."
"We covered the MCAT and its application processes then went over verbal reasoning and reading passages. We looked at test-taking techniques and how to work with the multiple-choice questions associated with passages."
"We spent the session going through organic chemistry material. First we finished alkene and alkyne reactions. The student had little trouble understanding the reactions but needed a refresher on the Markovnikov rule, and I advised her to make notecards for the reactions we went over and to study them on her own. We talked about aromaticity as well, focusing on electron-withdrawing and electron-donating groups. Finally, we started on alcohol and ether chemistry. We got through alcohol syntheses and reactions, which she understood, and we began ether chemistry."
"During this session, the student and I continued to work through general chemistry, covering the rest of the topics we needed to cover to get through that section."
"We went over 2 passages in depth and talked about an overall schedule and plan for him, as well as techniques for test taking."
"In our first session together, we reviewed strategies and drills for verbal reasoning. We also reviewed passages from the student's test prep book."
