"Today I wanted to work through an entire practice exam with student, so I copied one directly out of the review book. She went a little over time working on it, but that's actually an improvement from her original practice test, since it meant she was taking her time and reading the questions. At the beginning of the next session, we will finish going through all of the questions, but so far I have pinpointed a few issues such as not going back and double checking what the question was asking, and some difficulty with percentage questions. Now that we've been through all of the general background information for the test, I can now focus directly where she needs the most work. In this case I will double down on percents and exponents. She has shown improvement in geometry and equation manipulation though, so I'm confident she can continue to improve."
"Today I worked with all three students on their essays, pointing out run on sentences and places where their speech was a bit too conversational. I fixed some grammatical errors, but overall they did well. They're strong, compelling writers. Once they clean up their syntax a bit, they'll be excellent. Then, I worked with two of the students on Math. We went over a few problems before they had to go."
"Today we went over the practice Quantitative section that I had assigned for homework. We discussed both the underlying concepts in the questions as well as test-taking strategies to become more efficient at taking the test. Overall, she is improving in her ability to solve the algebra problems, and I am impressed with her ability to learn the geometry concepts so quickly. I let her know that since we are going to move on to looking at the verbal sections of the ISEE, it is important to get the book that I have been glancing at because that way we can go through the test-taking strategies together."
