Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this afternoon's session, the student worked through assignments 7.2a and 7.2b on the math website. The topics included multiplying fractions with exponents involving cross-canceling and factoring. The student did very well on the first section, where the exercises only involved multiplying and simplifying fractions with variables and exponents. The second section required her to factor polynomial expressions before multiplying the fractions, which slowed her down a little. She was still successful, however, and improved as the session progressed."
"Today in our session, we worked on quadrilaterals. The student was introduced to this concept this week. We reviewed the 4 different types of quadrilaterals and drew a picture of what each one looks like. We also went over different types of triangles and labeled each one either as right, acute, or obtuse angles. After finding out what the type of triangle is, we then had to label whether it was equilateral, isosceles, or scalene. We determined this by looking at the length of each side of the triangle. We continued to review concepts from previous sessions and the student is starting to really grasp the concept of elapse time. She and I are continuously working on doing mental math as oppose to using our fingers."
"Today we covered proportions and the basics of solving for variables. No progress has been noted yet. The student seemed to be struggling most with solving for variables so I gave her a technique to use for solving for variables and she seemed to really get it. I did not leave her with any practice. We agreed that she will practice in her book with solving for variables. There were no concerns with this session at all."
"The student practiced his most recent areas of study in math class, including turning number sentences into word problems, combining like terms, and simplifying expressions. He was left with several problems as homework, focusing on simplifying and combining like terms."
"The student and I went over ratio and proportions. I gave him notes, and after reviewing the concept we worked on some problems together. Then the student worked on a few independently."
"This session, the student and I reviewed her tests in preparation for her final. We worked through probability and binomial testing questions and the questions she missed on her test. I showed her how to do some of the steps on her calculator, which helped her understanding of the material. She will re-practice her test questions and go through any materials in the book as well."
