Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I tried different strategies for the reading section and then evaluated which one(s) worked best for her. She really liked the skimming method, so we stuck with that and she continued to get more correct answers that way. We then moved on to the writing section and worked on strategies for getting a better score on her essay for the remainder of the session."
"The student showed me her vocabulary and math assignments, which we covered briefly. We spent some time going over the basics of geometry and she seems to be doing well already. Vocabulary continues to need focused attention. Her goal is to be able to use all of her weekly words correctly in original sentences."
"We reviewed photosynthesis, cellular respiration, and fermentation for the student's exam tomorrow by discussing and copying down key points and simplifying diagrams from her teacher's review. She explained in her own words how each process worked and compared them. At the end of the session, she independently completed charts to review key concepts. She seemed to understand the concepts, but I realize there is a lot of information to remember without using notes. She said she'd review her notes more before the exam, which I agreed was a great idea. She was very respectful and focused. I would be thrilled to work with her again."
"This was the first session with the student. We began the session by writing descriptions of animals and other items and then moved on to word problems in order to help with both his math and critical thinking skills. Next I had him read from his book he is reading and then I had him write about it."
"The student and I went over some topics for his final that are covered in online practice sessions and lessons, but won't be covered in class. We covered imaginary numbers, complex number operations, and imaginary solutions to quadratic curves. He did well with everything after a brief lesson on how complex numbers work. He struggled a little with complex number operations, but I left him with practice problems and solutions for our next session."
"I just had a Chinese lesson with the student. It was great. We used the workbook to do his homework assignments together. We did several passages in Chinese and some other Chinese questions. The entire session was great since he was putting a lot of effort into it. He has improved a lot, and I am really looking forward to the next lesson."
