Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today was our final session before her test tomorrow. We went over the two things she said she struggles with the most (Math and Correcting Sentences). We may start meeting again in preparation for her taking the SAT again at the end of January."
"This was our first meeting in a while. We just went over some 'area under the curve' problems and worked with areas between curves. He had a test recently and it appears he did pretty well."
"We covered rates in relation to calculus derivatives and physics-type questions. We strategized approaches to these word problems, including effective parameter labeling, mental visualization of the model, and variable isolation. It's important to practice these problems thoroughly in order to practice the problem set up, which might include recognizing variables and constants, setting up a coordinate model, or isolating target parameters. He will practice more of these problems in order to work on efficient word-number and number-word transitions."
"The student and I spent this session going over graphing periodic functions. Graphing was the most difficult of the material for her in her latest quiz, so it will be her studying focus in preparation for her final exam. Graphing periodic functions requires five basic skills. First, you must be able to draw the "parent" function, or most general version of each periodic function. You can then make four alterations to the parent function, and correct graphing requires an understanding of how each alteration will look and how to calculate its impact. She is certainly capable of mastering all of this. She can handle graphing the parent function and one of the alterations without any problems. A second alteration she is really quite good at, but she is somewhat lacking in confidence. In preparation for her exam, we'll spend a lot of time continuing to work on this second alteration, and the other two that she also has to know."
"This was my first session with the student. We worked on stoichiometry, which she was struggling with. I explained to her a general way to solve all stoichiometric problems. She did a great job and seemed to learn the material. We also worked on a few empirical formula and molecular formula problems."
"It was our first time meeting, so we went over little things that we knew the student needed to work on. We discussed ways to memorize the poem/verbs/vocab words. Then, we did a bit of a brush up on cases with reflexive verbs. We then worked on word order and cases. I think she's doing well."
