Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I finished up her assignment over implicit differentiation. After that, we looked over some test corrections together."
"In this lesson we covered product rule, quotient rule, application problems such as marginal cost and position/velocity, and 2nd/3rd derivatives. We went through the student's homework problems. She was able to do most of them independently. I was there to guide her along if she was unsure or if she made a mistake. I noticed that she was getting more and more comfortable with the topics as she went through the problems."
"Today we covered the topic relating graphic sketching and graph analysis using first and second derivatives. We got through all the examples and almost finished all of the practice questions (homework problems). Generally, this section was pretty easy. As long as the student knew why we use the first and second derivative, it was easy to grasp this section. There were no particular problems in this session. The student is progressing excellently and we are powering through the modules."
"Today we went over the student's take home quiz that she completed prior to the session and just wanted to review before submitting in class. She did really well and I believe got the answers correct. We also went over her homework due the next day. We reviewed taking derivative using the product rule, quotient rule, natural log functions, exponential functions, and the chain rule. At the beginning of the homework she was looking at her notes for each method in order to complete the problems, but by the end of the session she was flying through the rules without looking at her notes and getting the answers correct. I believe she feels very comfortable with her current class topics, and she is doing really well. She also told me that she received a test score in the 80's for her makeup test which is significantly better than the low grade she got the first time around."
"We discussed the critical values of a function, and local maxima and minima. I did not discuss grades with him. He understood more than he had before, because he said he had done some of the homework from the previous sections, covering the chain, product, and quotient rules for differentiation. I encouraged him to continue doing the homework practice problems."
"The student has a test tomorrow, so we spent our time reviewing derivatives and elasticity. After going over the concepts, we went through review problems from her textbook. The student needed to brush up on the material. At times she needed me to guide her through a few of the problems, but overall she feels confident and ready to take the test. I anticipate that she will do very well. The student mentioned that she received a 98% on her last quiz, so she's definitely on the right track."
