"Today we went over quadratic functions and how to graph them. The student needed work on the subject matter and also his arithmetic and order of operations. I showed him how to manipulate the original function into vertex form by completing the square. This allowed him to find the vertex, min/max, intercepts, etc. I also taught him how the function will look like by comparing the vertex form to the general vertex form. We discussed using educational videos to learn the material and do practice problems on his own time, and then I can clarify any concepts that he does not understand."
"Today, we worked on more practice problems regarding conversions. Instead of working with 3 units or more, the student only had to convert one unit into another. We focused on two rules to follow when converting. When converting from a smaller unit to a larger unit, we divide. When converting a larger unit to a smaller unit, we divide. She completed her practice with no problems. I also left her with 3 sheets of review problems. I included material from the beginning of the semester to now."
"The student is doing really well! I felt so proud of him when he said that he feels confident that he'll do well on his next test. That's a great sign, and as his tutor, I couldn't be more happy for him. We started off by doing some more practice on the end of course examinations. Then we went over what he's been learning in class, which is converting the quadratic equation in standard form, to vertex form."
"Today, the student and I worked on operations with polynomials in preparation for an upcoming quiz. Specifically, we worked on operations with polynomials. Conceptually, he has a grasp on everything, and he did well on the problems as well. He also reported that he did well on the prior exam, so that was good to hear as well."
"The student and I had an excellent session today. We started with factoring the difference of perfect cubes. She found this difficult at first, but now understands. Then we analyzed documents for her DBQ. She is getting better at stating the significance of facts. She was focused and inquisitive today."
"We reviewed geometric constructions once more. The student gave detailed explanations of what needs to be done to copy angles, bisect angles, etc. She recently received back her test and she earned 26/30 on a quiz related to geometric constructions. We also went over any lingering questions about her quiz."
