Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The purpose of our session was to simulate the testing experience for the student before he takes his test on Friday. An abbreviated administration starting with section 1 going all the way to 4 was administered. He did quite well on his math diagnostic but still must be careful to check his work for accuracy. Little errors caused him to miss several questions. For the verbal his performance can be improved by using the analogy identification strategy shared in our sessions and carefully considering answers when choosing antonyms. His reading performance suffered tonight because of his lack of annotation of text and verifying evidence when selecting his answers. My suggestion for next steps with his parents: Finish the diagnostics for each section and score. Review incorrect answers and revisit for identifying correct answers. Continue to practice the reading using the diagnostic."
"The student and I went over the diagnostic SSAT Math test she took online, reviewing concepts she missed in more detail. We also reviewed geometry and volume topics we had spent the last few sessions covering. I assigned her practice questions from a humanities reading passage from the test prep website, and we talked about general RC strategies. We ended with some more math review. I feel like she is getting more confident in her math abilities."
"First we reviewed the format of the test. We went over how long each section is and how many questions are in each. Then we did some strategy help, such as telling her when to guess and when to not answer. Next we moved on to practice. We covered placement exam reading and verbal concepts. She did well with reading, especially when she put the time in to figure out the problems. Her verbal skills are good but she needs help with some vocabulary. I encouraged her to read more outside of school to enhance her vocabulary. I left her with a math diagnostic to complete before Monday's session."
