Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I mentioned last time that the student had been struggling a little. I had trouble finding him engaging and level-appropriate books, and he had trouble staying focused on the reading. This session, though, was perfect. I chose a book for him from the library and he blitzed straight through six chapters in our session. It was great. Next time, I just need to choose something slightly more challenging for him."
"The student and I focused on reading, phonics, and spelling. I have seen her spelling test, and she is improving."
"I covered timed reading and repetition of phrases with the student. We will continue to work on sounding out challenging words."
"The student completed her math homework, both the word problems and the vocabulary worksheets. I then found a passage on the Seven Wonders of the World and had her read the passage out loud. We then briefly talked about the passage before I asked her to answer five questions. These questions were multiple choice and she got all five correct. The passage was a fifth grade reading level. Tomorrow we will do a sixth grade level passage."
"We finished reading the books about the sharks. We went over meaning of the words and how sit is used in the text. We did discussion on the various sharks, and the types of food they eat. We did prior knowledge about sharks. It was pretty extensive for a 1st grader. She is a hard worker."
"We read aloud from the Junie B. book. After reading we practiced unfamiliar vocabulary. Next session we'll incorporate a new technique that they're using in her reading class."
