Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we began working on circuits. We looked at the concepts of resistance, resistivity, capacitance, voltage, current, and power. We went over several theoretical/conceptual problems, as well as some simple questions using Ohm's Law."
"We reviewed for the student's physics test tomorrow on waves. The student was pretty strong on the concepts, so we focused mainly on the problems that required calculations, most notable open air tubes, tubes with a closed end, pendulum, and The Doppler Effect. We looked not only at how to apply the formulas to the equations, but worked to understand why each portion of the equation was there and what it said about the effect of that element of the formula on everything else."
"The student and I worked on a review sheet that covered two dimensional projectile motion. We covered how motion in the "x" and "y" directions are "uncoupled" but when information in one direction can inform the other. We derived additional formulae from the existing relationships to help solve a few problems that had similar conditions. For the last few problems we incorporated angled surfaces."
"In geometry today, we talked about different techniques for finding the area and perimeter of figures in a coordinate plane. The student did well with all of the techniques. In biology, we talked about the three different species concepts, as well as what kind of traits (morphological and biochemical) to look at when considering phylogeny and cladistics."
"This session we worked on the student's final presentation on gravitational force and the earth's atmosphere. We researched composition, structure, and history of the earth's atmosphere and made a first draft of the slides."
"Spent time brainstorming assessment exam essays. Spent time reviewing Unit 7, Lesson 2 - magnetic fields and electron flow. Completed assignment for unit. Reviewed, graded, and returned previous unit assignment."
