Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on her language arts lessons. This was our first tutoring session. She is very bright. She loves handwriting practice. I gave her a spelling assessment that she received 100% on, and she also got the challenge words correct. She did an excellent job writing sentences about a car wash."
"The student did very well in her session yesterday. She was focused, engaged and had a positive attitude throughout. We spent 30 minutes reading a chapter book from her school library, and discussed comprehension questions. She found the book we were reading humorous, and I think this helped her to connect with the material. She continues to do well with her math assignments, and completed her two pages of homework with no direction from me. Finally, she continues to grasp the concept of synonyms as it relates to her word study homework assignments."
"Today I wrote a number of the words in the story on a white board, and we read them first before we started to read the story. When the student concentrates, she does very well and often is able to read difficult words. She ended up reading the story well. When we finished with the book, we made words from the story using the Bananagrams tiles connecting as many as we could as in Scrabble."
"Today the student did a lot of work. She wrote two speeches and worked on a memo for her philosophy class. She did a great job in coming up with ideas, and supporting her ideas with good evidence. Good job."
"The student and I focused on practice questions involving interpretation of written passages; specifically, inferences and implied ideas, extrapolating from the passage, and passage content. I chose these subjects based on the challenges inherent in two of his previous writing assignments. He is improving significantly with the practice questions since we first began tutoring. He also reports better grades at school on his writing assignments. He always brings a great attitude to our sessions, and even thanked me for choosing difficult multiple-choice practice questions because he wants to be better. It was a successful session."
"In tonight's session, the student covered material on correctly using 'who' and 'whom' and 'subject-verb agreement'. She is having a test tomorrow on these subjects. She made 100% on her test last week that we studied for! Good for her!! We worked on worksheets I downloaded and she wrote some problems from her school books. She did a great job on all work tonight!"
