Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student continued to work on the ISEE practice problems, specifically the reading comprehension and math achievement portions of the exam. She seems to have a good grasp on inference questions. She is also good at narrowing down answer choices to two which include the right one. This is a good start , and with sufficient practice she will improve her reading comprehension skills even more. In math, we have worked on concepts she has not been exposed to. As we were doing the sample problems, she was introduced to percent of increase, multiplying and dividing exponents, and how to convert between standard form and scientific notation. For homework, she will continue to complete an assigned diagnostic test so I can gauge what she needs to focus on in order to improve. She is focused, and she did a good job today with two new sections."
"Today we started with a couple of warm-up questions reviewing the various topics we covered from last session. We then went over the practice math section and reviewed in depth the problems that the student missed based on subjects. Specifically, we looked at the definitions questions, exponent/root type questions, matrix questions, and some of the geometry questions. We realized that some of the mistakes were because certain elements, like "i," hadn't been learned yet. For next session, I told her to look at her review book to see which subjects stood out to her as difficult. Next lesson we will also go over the probability, sequences, and algebraic evaluation questions that gave her trouble on the last section."
"We covered the verbal portion of the test. I also sent the student a link with 75 of the most common words that appear on this exam. We completed the verbal section and went over which choices she got incorrect and also helped her to build up her vocabulary by writing done and defining the words that she got incorrect and also words with which she was unfamiliar. She did very well. She is building confidence for taking timed exams."
