"We went over the student's answers from the practice test she worked on after yesterday's lesson. Her score on the critical reading was generally strong, however we determined she could use some help with picking up on the meaning of certain vocabulary words she is unfamiliar with from contextual clues. I suggested thinking of a word that sounds similar (i.e. "refute" and "refuse") as a useful trick for guessing a close definition for a new word. She did comparably well on the math section. She also completed the essay section, which I took home to grade before our next meeting on Wednesday. In the meantime, I urged her to fill out as many practice tests as she could so that she can become fully comfortable with the material and types of questions that will be asked on the actual SAT."
"The student worked diligently this week. We worked through two math sections, a verbal section, and a writing section. She continues to excel at writing. She also did well through the verbal section, and we will continue to work to improve in the math section. I asked her to do a math and verbal section over the week. We will spend a bulk of our time ahead on math questions so that she can master this section."
"The student and I focused on general scoring rules and test-taking strategies for the SAT today. We discussed strategies for the essay, including the organization, format, and possible examples to use to support the thesis. He will research more examples for next week. We also discussed specific grammar rules and practiced "error id" questions. We also covered strategies for sentence completions and practiced some vocabulary words. I showed him where he can find additional practice items on the website, which he will practice for next week."
