Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We reviewed some aspects of the student's honors biology project. She needed to write an abstract and have graphs for a presentation, so we discussed data analysis together."
"We covered more of the genetics chapter and worked on example problems from the book. This week the student will continue to work on learning book topics and next weekend we will work on practice problems and crosses. We also completed a worksheet due this week."
"We basically covered material that will be shown and explored in the midterm for both biology and algebra. For biology we covered chapter by chapter, covering concepts and answering problems based on atoms, elements, compounds, cells etc. We also worked over some problems for algebra."
"I worked with both students to study for their test on genetics, specifically Mendel's pea plants and doing mono and dihybrid crosses. We completed the assigned problem set and both students did very well on figuring out the answers. They understood the difference between an allele, gene, and chromosome and at first they were both a bit confused on incomplete dominance and co-dominance, but after explaining it to them and giving them examples and doing practice problems, they both understood the concepts."
"We began the biotech slides by covering bacterial cloning, selection, screening, and using restriction enzymes. From there we moved on to PCR and DNA sequencing. I lectured and answered the student's questions on the topics and we also worked on questions and a short quiz within the slides."
"We reviewed the student's past exams. This included material from cell cycle, cell division, cellular respiration, genetics, transcription, translation, the chemical nature of biology, functional group chemistry, the chemistry of peptide bonds, and much more."
