Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on kinematics in 2 dimensions. We practiced many problems and worked on the relationship between motion in the vertical and horizontal dimensions. We also worked on using the kinematic formulas and solving for time in order to transition between dimensions of motion."
"Tonight we went over her essay for the DuPont challenge. The topic is bioterrorism and how best to combat it. We used google docs for the edits. She will continue to work on it and we will go over final revisions tomorrow."
"We covered how to calculate torque, how to determine the force causing the torque, and the lever arm associated with the force. We also covered rotational kinematics and how to apply torque to equilibrium problems."
"The student and I worked on pre-calculus in hyperbola and parabola equations. He does these very well, as long as he slows down. Then we worked on acid-base chemistry and titrations. We worked through his homework questions, which he knows how to do well, and I tutored him on how to do full titration calculations to give him a heads-up in his class. After some practice, he had them down well."
"Today we focused on Algebra 2 and worked through a review of most of the student's homework problems, paying particular attention to the ways in which many of the problems required similar strategies to solve. The word problems seemed to be a bit more challenging - when working through these in the future, try to focus on converting the information in the problem into equations or expressions before doing anything else. When trying to solve these, usually the process of writing out each bit of information in terms of variables and algebraic expressions goes a long way toward figuring out how to solve for what you need. We will continue to work on this next session."
"She was struggling with epistasis and some mutations. We covered a bunch of epistasis examples and talked about the mutations that can affect translation and transcription. She has a great attitude and is willing to work through problems. We didn't talk about strategies or study skills. She mentioned a practice midterm that we will most likely go over before her midterm exam on Monday."
