Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student received feedback from her second grade teacher today that her reading has improved a lot over the summer. Both she and I were excited by the positive feedback. Today we worked on word ladders to improve vocabulary and inferencing. Then we finished reading chapter 10 of "Leprechauns in Late Winter," using the re-reading and focused question strategies. We also worked on fluency with a reading from the second-grade fluency book. She chose the reading herself, and then listened to a recording of herself reading before giving herself feedback."
"On my last visit I noticed a decline in penmanship so I had the student write the alphabet; her stroke order is correct, but she will need to practice, especially with unlined paper writing. I also noted that she had a hard time doing quick simple addition in her head so I taught her a fun adding game. She had me teach it to her mom so the family could play it. During reading I made sure she used a dictionary to look up any new words."
"We read through 2 books, reviewed flashcards from the previous sessions, created flashcards with key words with which she has been struggling, and read two additional books."
