Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began with discussing the take-home portion of the student's anthropology final, which is comprised of a 3-4 page mini research paper. Her professor has been rejecting several students' proposed topics. We came up with a few potential topics and she will speak with her professor about them Monday. We then returned to the art history paper. On reviewing her class notes, the student recalled an article that her professor referred to in class. She was able to find it online and will read it before our next meeting. We created an outline for the paper using many of the points she made during her presentation."
"We continued our review of the major topics of his History lesson. His grasp of the concepts showed growth in this session, as we prepared for an impending test. He scored a 95 on the test."
"Student 1--We covered the limit and alternative definitions of derivatives, and talked about how to find the equation of a line tangent to a function at a given point. Student 2--Talked about a new strategy for the reading section."
"Went over problems missed in math sections of practice test and discussed how to solve fractions, percentage, and computational algebra problems. For homework: math practice and 8-10 vocabulary words to memorize (using flashcards)."
"Today the student and I talked about electrochemistry. We discussed the general concept behind reduction and oxidation, and we then worked on balancing redox equations together. She understood the material much more after working through them. Afterward, we looked at images of voltaic cells and talked about what was happening in each cell."
"We went over some vital concepts that will come up on the LSAT, including the different degrees of truth, sufficient and necessary, contrapositives, and some/ most/ all. We then went over 2 games that introduced basic linear games and sequencing games. We learned how to draw a few rules and how to view and understand sequencing games. I want to note how extremely confident I am that the student will improve to her target score if she diligently works hard and keeps practicing!"
