Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"For this session we continued reviewing the Riemann sum and its different applications and properties. We also reviewed Integrals, mostly indefinite."
"The student has a test in the morning over differentiation, so tonight he needed me to help him review by checking his work and re-explaining the processes. Except for a problem on average rate of change, the most recent topic, he showed a good understanding on how to handle the types of questions that will be on the quiz."
"The student and I met to review more for his upcoming test. He appeared to have gone over the related rates problems I had sent to him, and was beginning to grasp the concepts well. We also went over some problems on implicit differentiation and finding absolute maxima and minima. In general, he seems to understand the basics of the problems quite well. If the test is very similar to his homework he should be able to perform well."
"We reviewed the fact that the derivative gave us the slope of the tangent line to a graph. We then used that information to write the equations of lines tangent to a function at a specific point. We reviewed the rules for derivatives and explored using the product and quotient rules. The student has done these before, so we treated it as review, and did some rather involved problems to check his understanding."
"We went over a few free-response questions from a recent Calculus exam. The student is very comfortable using the features of his graphing calculators and this will prove to be a big help going into the exam."
"First we covered an online module, introducing the product and quotient rules for derivatives. We briefly discussed the intuitive reasoning behind these formulas, and the focused on learning the formulas and applying them correctly. Next we used an online homework assignment as a framework for studying for the new material, covering basic differentiation rules (power rule, exponential function, power rule, quotient rule). The student got the hang of all concepts quickly. It was a solid session."
