Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student showed me areas that he felt he did not understand well from his review for his upcoming test. During the session we addressed each subject and he was able to practice methods we went over. Topics included chain rule, product rule, derivatives of trigonometric functions, tangent and second lines, and local minimum and maximum. After a few examples, he was able to reproduce methods to tackle each subject. We also discussed ways to keep work clean and easy to follow, as this will help him just as much as it will help the teacher grade his work"
"Today, the student and I worked through some analogy problems together. She understood how to answer the ones she was sure of, and how to use process of elimination on the ones she was unsure about. In addition, we worked through a reading comprehension passage together. We also practiced using word parts and the connotations of words to select the correct answer for the synonym questions. Lastly, we worked on basic geometry, practiced converting between fractions and decimals, and solved order of operations problems."
"We began by reviewing numbers through thirty-one and the months so that the girls could say when their birthdays were. Next I introduced the alphabet in Spanish, since they were interested in how to spell the names of the months. Finally, we covered the question and answer pattern "?Cuantos ___ hay?" and "Hay ___" by searching for items in an I Spy book."
"During this session, the student and I reviewed verbal sections during the beginning of our lesson, and then moved on to math for the remainder of the review. I feel very comfortable with his progress and have no doubt regarding his ability to perform strongly on all areas on this test. The main focus of this lesson was simply to brush up on areas that have routinely given him problems, of which there were very few."
"I met with the student today for the first time. The session went well. We spent our time working through his math homework on fractions, decimals, and percentages. He is a kinesthetic and visual learner, so we focused on modeling math problems. He is an extremely hard worker and easy going kid."
"The student and I had a productive session. We reviewed all noun-forms, declensions 1-4; all verb-forms, conjugations 1-4, six indicative tenses, active and passive voices. We then reviewed the vocabulary from his previous daily quiz, then the vocabulary for his next daily quiz. Finally, he worked on his written homework for the next day . We identified a need to meet again before his next test on Monday, so will meet at 2:30 on Saturday."
