Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
As we were going through the problems, we hit some roadblocks. Each time this occurred, I used it as an opportunity to stress the importance of understanding each of the sequence and series convergence/divergence, ratio test, comparison test, etc. We kept a book as reference for checking back to examine the various tests, and were trying to get a sense of the patterns present for these types of problems' solutions. Given that we had not covered any of chapter 11 problems, I was glad to see that there was no one area really lacking from any of the 11.1-11.7 sections. We only spent an hour, but we used it as efficiently as we could. We performed 2-3 problems from 11.2, 11.4, 11.5, and 11.6. After we had finished, we talked about the problems in retrospect. I told the student during the session that he should expect some sort of manipulation or simplification steps before taking the limit of the series, then examine his simplified sequence, and explore one of approaches to determine series convergence or divergence.
I provided the student with a supplemental handout I created, so that he can improve his understanding of the Chapter 11 core, and his speed during completing problems."
