Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed a homework assignment she had on double/polar integrals and then another on triple integrals. She has a strong command of the material."
"We focused this session on working through homework dealing with logarithms and, to a lesser extent, exponents. In particular, we dealt with converting between logarithmic and exponential forms, the relationship between roots and powers, the fact that the log of 1 is zero for any base, and the inverse relationship between logarithms and powers. The student was already adept at converting between the two forms and seemed comfortable utilizing these various rules as needed. Since we had a bit of extra time at the end of the session, we ended with a discussion of how logarithms are used in certain measurements, such as the Richter scale and measuring sound volume."
"We spent time practicing finding the areas of various geometric figures. His grades have been gradually going up and Dad is pleased with the progress. I am currently trying to see if I can meet with him each week, as he needs weekly reinforcement."
"During our session, the student needed help with angles. So we completed his homework that asked him to identify interior, exterior and corresponding angles. He also needed to identify measurements of those angles given at least one angle of reference. The last bit of his homework was solving algebraic equations that represented the values of angles. He also completed a homework assignment about genes and chromosomes for his science class. Overall, his work ethic was fantastic and he completed all of his work quickly and fairly easily."
"This week the student has a test on geometric shapes, and finding the surface area. He is strong in visual math but is also a kinesthetic learner who likes to hold shapes to better understand them. We spent the hour going through two separate review while I explained how to calculate surface area, and he talked me through what each prism was called and why."
"Today we continued preparing the student for his Algebra placement test. We worked in a textbook on the chapter covering functions. New material covered today includes slope, point-slope form, & graphing equations. He did very well."
