Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Reviewed for a pre-calculus quiz over arithmetic sequences, geometric sequences, and polar coordinates that the student has on Tuesday. We spent some of the time reviewing her class notes and going over the concepts to make sure she knew them well and had the formulas memorized. We then went over her quiz from a few weeks ago that covered the same material, but in less detail than the test will. We then spent the rest of the time working through a homework set with arithmetic and geometric sequence real-world and application problems that the student has due tomorrow. I think she was overall very comfortable with the material and will be fine for the test."
"We started with a little chemistry, focusing on acid/base ionization equations and a lab using the Ideal gas law. Then we shifted into pre-calculus. Here, we discussed sequences and series (arithmetic and geometric), recognizing patterns, and solving for their equation."
"We covered all topics for his quiz: graphing and parametric equations. We was improving during the session. He was able to do all problems on his own by the end of the session. I told him to review the problems we covered and make sure he knew the concept behind each problem."
"The student has a test tomorrow, and I think it will go rather well. We spent our time going over the review for the test (on exponential functions). When we finished, we went over the two kinds of problems he seemed to be weakest on, doing quite a few of both of them before it seemed rather rote. We also highlighted some typical mistakes he was making for him to remember and by the end he was not making those."
"The student and I were in a good place for today's session because we were able to work ahead last week. As a result we briefly covered the various transformations of exponential and log functions before moving on to solving exponential equations. She did well with everything and should just brush up on translating word problems into numeric equations."
"During this session, graphing trigonometric functions was reviewed using class-given worksheets. The student has difficulty in completing and understanding the material, but this is due to lack of exposure to proper algebraic fundamentals rather than ability. This will be remedied during our sessions."
