Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student was working with sequences and series today, working with both geometric and arithmetic ones. He got practice in solving for incremental terms and writing both the recursive and explicit forms for the sequences."
"During this session, we practiced enrichment skills that the student would be using in the 8th grade. We practiced solving geometric problems by using the Pythagorean theorem. We practiced finding the missing side of a right triangle by inputting the given side lengths of the right triangle. We also looked at using Scientific Notation to rewrite small and large numbers. We rewrote numbers that were written in Scientific Notation and rewrote them in Standard Notation. The student successfully solved the problems that demonstrated these two skills. She was able to do so independently after an example was demonstrated and after we did some examples together. We also practiced solving these types of problems on an interactive math website. The student was engaged with the material and stated that the session was helpful to her."
"I covered a multitude of concepts including balancing equations, describing chemical reactions, and converting between moles, molar mass, the Avogadro's number and volume in liters, among other concepts. The student needed help with balancing chemical equations, so we went over that in detail, and he maintained a positive attitude. I left him with a detailed step-by-step process to help him complete future problem sets. He showed me notes from his teacher's PowerPoint, which was a very promising sign depicting his investment in his own future. We most definitely had a lot of wins during today's session."
"We tried some practice problems from the student's final review packet. We discussed concepts related to factoring polynomials, graphing equations, logarithms, compound interest, and least common multiples."
"We covered both chemistry and Algebra 2. We did about 20 stoichiometry problems and about the same number of math problems, finishing up her review sheet. These problems were logarithms, compound interest, and rational functions."
"I made up a practice test for the student, which included similar types of questions from his review that he had missed. He was struggling with certain concepts, such as how to find the area of a trapezoid. He missed a couple questions on the practice test, but still did well. If he did not get the questions right the first time, he got them right on the second try. I think he is well prepared for his final and will hopefully get an A!"
