Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I focused on unit circle concepts and completing/expanding the squares of given equations. We also reviewed how to properly graph functions with limited provided information. We also practiced example problems from her book."
"First we went over multiplying and dividing numbers with exponents. We started with just x and y as bases, and then moved to numbers an bases. We did some work finding equivalent numbers and common bases, and did some more complicated problems using that. Then we went over graphing functions, finding common points in systems of functions, and other related topics for her quiz on wed"
"I helped Inesse with homework problems and then we worked on some AP free response questions. I think these AP questions will really help her prepare for her exam so she could become familiar with the way they word questions because she was a little shaky on figuring out what they wanted."
"The student has a retest over area and perimeter on Friday. Today we covered area of rectangles, squares, triangles, trapezoids, circles, and parallelogram. We also reviewed volumes of rectangular prisms, cubes, triangular prisms, and cylinder. The student made a 60 on her recent test, however when we reviewed, she knew all of the information."
"The student and I reviewed for his algebra quiz. Using his textbook, we worked through problems involving factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula. I emphasized following simple steps when solving by completing the square, and discussed when to use the quadratic equation."
"The student and I covered the very basics of differential equations--namely, those that are separable. This required going over the rules of exponentials and natural logs. We also touched on initial value problems and slope fields."
"We did his special "cartoon-framing" homework assignment together, then returned to working on the Ch.7 practice problems I gave him. I asked him to complete the remaining problems before our next meeting on Thursday."
"We covered solving a system of linear equations with substitution. The student had the basics down. He was able to say what he wanted to solve for and why he would a particular way. He does not recognize the process in solving however."
"Briefly went over the past participles of some irregular verbs. Then we spent a lot of time reviewing the multiplication of binomials. I introduced her to factoring polynomials."
"The student had a web assignment, and again, the material (stoichiometry and limiting reagents) was not difficult for her as much as it was tedious. She didn't have trouble with the concepts, but occasionally would make mistakes since she was rushing through it due to boredom. Algebra was more of a struggle - they were working on rational functions and finding zeros and determining where the function was positive or negative."
"In this evening's session, the student and I worked through more of his test review packet. The main topics we focused on were applying the rational zeroes theorem and asymptotes: horizontal, vertical, and slant. He has good algebra skills. By the end of the session, he was very confident in his abilities regarding the topics in the review."
"We covered integration; her assignment was concerning the power rule. We also moved ahead a bit and covered substitution, which is a method that they have yet to cover in class. We covered some of the problems in the text beyond her assigned homework and I asked her to look over the rest and bring any questions/concerns to me at the next meeting. Overall I left with the impression that she was getting a good grasp on integration in general."
