Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student shows good progress. She should bring her book home every time she has homework or a tutoring session. I reminded her to use her notes and the book as resources to help her answer these math problems. Also that many of the homework questions she had could be figured out by analogous solved problems in the book."
"I answered questions that the student had - in doing so, covered concepts that were most difficult for her for the coming up exam. I gave tips and simplified these concepts to help her remember them better. She was feeling more confident at the end of our session."
"The student took a quick 8th grade reading assessment. He scored a 68% which is what I was hoping for. We can now work on identifying vocab that he does not know and apply it to the story read for better comprehension. The student and I discussed forming titles for pictures and stories. We worked on the rules of a title and which words you are supposed to capitalize."
"Today, we focused again on speaking Chinese. We used the student's Chinese as a guideline for today's lesson. The student was able to read and understand all three lessons that we had gone over. I had the student translate sentences from English to Chinese verbally. The student did an excellent job at translating. There was one lesson where the student struggled to understand all the vocabularies, but he was still able to use context clues to understand the overall meaning of the lesson. We ended the lesson by quizzing the student's vocabularies using the index cards that he created."
"Today we began studying for the student's midterm. We covered the process for finding the tangent plane to a surface at a given point, the linear approximation of a surface at a given point, the use of differentials to calculate error and the gradient vector. I also made notes for him to be able to study each process."
"The student and I were meeting for the first time after a long layoff today, so we focused on some new issues that have cropped up in the interim. While we covered a lot of new material, the student was very open-minded and did an excellent job of comprehending and applying what we discussed. We spent a good portion of the session discussing mental preparation for the exam. The student indicated that this was a very useful session and that his confidence is much higher than it was after his last session. I think our biggest win was seeing the light bulb over his head go on when we talked about strategic skipping."
