Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on homework for section 42 which deals with proving triangles congruent using SSS and SAS. He understands the material and loaned me one of his two copies of his book. So I have enough material to create a practice quiz before his next quiz. In his class, the teacher hands out "big list" forms which the student fills in with definitions, postulates and theorems. The student told me that he can use these big lists during quizzes and perhaps on exams. Since he can use these big lists during quizzes, he will fill in the blanks and I will also filling in the blanks and we will compare our big lists."
"For this session, the student and I covered the same subject material from the previous session. We continued to practice multiplication from her homework assignment and practiced her tables from each number."
"During this session, we started out by looking at a warmup quiz. We went over a long division problem, a multiplication problem with decimals, and a word problem with fractions. We also covered some math vocabulary that was part of her homework and simplifying fractions."
"In this session, we discussed the difference between a factor and a multiple of a number. I showed the student how and when to properly distribute and he practiced with examples distributing a one term expression into a binomial. I also showed him how to factor expressions. He then practiced factoring simple two and three term expressions."
"Today we spent our time working on the understanding of ones, tens, and hundreds by using manipulatives that I supplied. She was able to build an understanding that 10 1's equaled 1 10's bar and the same for 100's. We first worked on a few sample problems I created and then she was asked to build her own representation of a number I told her to create. We are going to continue working on the same skills next week but possibly moving to a pictorial creation."
"During this session, the student and I practiced her two and three times tables using flashcards and the multiplication table. She also completed two multiplication drills of her two and three times tables.

"Today the student and started by reviewing percentages. He is still having trouble with the concept but I think we made some headway today. We then went over manipulating inequalities as well as a basic review of adding/multiplying fractions."
"We spent most of the time reviewing for the upcoming test. We looked at solving differential equations using separation of variables and the method of integrating factors. We also examined slope fields (both constructing them and finding solutions using them). We examined the connection between a class of differential equations and exponential functions."
"First student reviewed square roots, the concept of i, and did test corrections. Assigned additional homework in order to catch him up with the rest of the class.
Second student did test corrections concerning order of operations and assisted in homework concerning order of operations with negative numbers."

"The student and I worked on horizontal, vertical, and oblique asymptotes in rational functions. His teacher had not covered the section yet, so we were working ahead on the homework assignments. He understood the methods for determining vertical and horizontal asymptotes, and later was able to understand oblique asymptotes. He was able to determine the slope of the oblique. We agreed to work through the problems that he could do, and to continue after having the subject covered in class."
"The student and I went over two more makeup assignments today, addressing polynomial equations, functions, and inequalities. She is continuing to make progress in her understanding of the material."
"We worked on 2s and 3s multiplication, rounding, and place value. We also covered theme and main idea/supporting details. Overall, the student does well with 2s and 3s. We went over multiplying by 8, 9, or 12. Her homework is to continue to practice speed drills."
