Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began the session by reading a story sent home from school called The Pirate. We reviewed the first 33 words from the sight word list. We played a sight word memory game, and then reviewed the sight words again. He is very willing to work with me to improve his reading, and his fluency is improving."
"Similar to last week, I had the student pick a different magazine to read. This time it was a catalog of random products and each one had a detailed description of each. She was able to pick whichever product she wanted to read. After we read each one I had her circle all the sight words she could find in each. For her homework I assigned her spelling words to practice for the week."
"The student and I started our first chapter book together this week. She is very strong in responding to factual and inferential questions, and I wanted to start pushing her. As we read through the chapter book, she will have to retain what happened each week. Additionally, we will be working on tracking multiple plot lines and characters. When we started our first chapter, she read her instructional level strongly. She is self correcting and reading at a strong pace. This week, I challenged her with character motivation questions. We practiced thinking about what the character does and says to help us infer their motivation."
