Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Review from last semester. Also started in on the new quadrilateral side, angle relations. He was having trouble with the review but picked up the new concepts fairly well."
"-We covered applications of derivatives. -The first thing the student sent me was a recent test/quiz. Not sure if it was graded or not. There were questions where he showed his work. This is where we focused."
"The student and I covered equations containing fractions and how to solve these using multiplicative inverses. This involves dividing a fraction (therefore multiplying by the inverse) in order to solve an equation. We did a lot of practice taking care to avoid and point out common pitfalls with this question type. Finally, we went a little ahead of the current material to cover how to cancel out fractions in algebraic equations by multiplying both sides by an LCM. I assigned homework for him to do to get extra practice."
"We covered factors, greatest common factor, multiples, and least common multiples. The student did well with the concepts covered. She is utilizing reading comprehension strategies to analyze word problems. Her computations are extremely accurate. I think if she combines these two skills, she will continue to do well. She will continue to practice these skills to prepare for the state assessment 5th grade mathematics exam. It was a productive session today."
"The student was focused and attentive throughout the entire session. She worked on the following skills - adding multiple large numbers, multiplication drill's x3's and x4's, and word problems (subtraction and multiplication). She also worked on the Roman numerals sheet that I had left for her last Tuesday. She finished the practice sheet and then worked on subtraction drills. Strategies for the session included - verbal prompts, visual schedule, praise, and structured teaching. I left a subtraction drill practice with her to work on prior to our next meeting. She is always willing to work, and she tries her best every time!"
"We focused on reviewing concepts. I read through all the chapter titles, and asked both students what they would most like to practice. They printed out some exercise sheets using their online math skills workbook. I reviewed perimeter, area of polygons, and circumference of circles. They both did well, although I would suggest studying the formulas for area and circumference to increase their solving speed. Next session we will finish reviewing circumference and area of circles."
