"The student completed most of the homework and has done a good job of integrating our strategies so far. She continues to perform well across the board in math, but we will continue to work on problems that require heavy set up. She was assigned homework."
"Since the students had their practice test #4 due on Thursday, we decided to work from the rear sections to the forward sections to help facilitate them finishing up the test. Starting from the writing section (section 10) to the verbal section (section 8), we ran into a few problems with some of the questions but overall a much smoother transition into the questions than we've had before. Again, it's just a matter of getting practice and as much experience with the questions as much as possible. The first student did excellently on the initial writing section. And students two and three did solidly on the other 2 sections. I think time management will continue to be the biggest obstacle moving forward but it's something that a few well-placed skipped questions can easily solve. It is better to skip the high level difficult questions rather than waste time attempting to solve it and end up skipping it at the end. I am seeing definite improvement in all 3 students. One thing we changed during this session is the method in which we work on verbal sections. Initially, I had taught the students to try and read the questions first and go through the passage as the questions necessitated, but seeing as they are having a few problems with understanding the concepts and catching details within the passage, we will attempt to read the passage first and go through the questions. Although doing the latter sacrifices efficiency and time, it should improve accuracy, which is what my immediate goal is; for the students to get as many questions correct that they are currently having the time to attempt."
"The student and I discussed what to expect on the SAT and the proper methods for doing well on the exam. We also went through many practice questions. For homework, I assigned him a full practice exam."
