Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on essay planning and writing. I taught the approach for formulating advanced thesis statements."
"Today the student and I reviewed a section each of math, reading, and grammar. I encouraged the student to trust her good instincts when she chooses an answer. Once she does so, she will be more comfortable with the test and more successful overall."
"Student and I began this session by reviewing the math problems she completed for homework. She did a great job on these, and though she had trouble with a few, she was able to successfully complete most of them on her own after looking back at the problems and breaking them down. Next, we worked on some more math practice problems together. She had an easy time with most of these, but she made a few small mistakes, so she must remember to read problems carefully and solve them slowly and deliberately. I am definitely beginning to notice her test-taking confidence rising. Next, we began to work on the passage-based reading section. We talked about the differences between active reading and passive reading, and then we practiced active reading on sample passages and completed some associated practice problems. She did very well on this, but more practice will allow her to move through passages even more quickly and answer questions even more accurately. Next week we will continue working on the critical reading and math sections, and if time allows, we will also begin prepping for the writing multiple choice. For homework, we agreed that she would completed a full-length practice exam, applying all of the strategies that we have worked on so far. If she wants to do additional homework, she can complete more practice problems in the book."
