Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The first meeting with the student went very well. She is a very bright and conscientious student that grasps concepts quickly. We went over genetics, protein synthesis, homeostasis, test strategies, and did some practice questions. Each session, we are going to spend half of the time going over specific subject matter and the other half doing practice questions, so that she is prepared for the exam in June. If the student has any labs, HW or projects, we will work those in accordingly."
"The student reviewed Darwin and how he came up with his theory of evolution. We covered Lamarck and how he helped Darwin. We also discussed the theories of how life began. The student received his latest test score back and was pleased to earn a 75. We discussed ways that he could improve on that and possibly be in the B or A range next time. So far his 2nd semester grade is a B, which is a vast improvement from last semester."
"We covered two broad subjects: 1) the various kinds of cells in living organisms, their differences, a key common factor in all cells being the plasma (cell) membrane - it's structure and function as well as embedded membrane proteins and their function; 2) energy in biology including 1st and 2nd law of thermodynamics as well as photosynthesis and cellular respiration. These are hard topics and I gave the student some guidance on learning techniques, e.g. flashcards. I also advised him to get a "study buddy" or group to help each other and practice answering questions."
"We reviewed the 20 amino acids, went over the structures for the 10 easier ones, since he needs to draw them, molarity and practice problems, and pH and practice problems."
"We covered genetics, chemistry, and went over the terms on the study guide that the student didn't understand."
"The student and I reviewed bonding, macromolecules, and the properties of water in preparation for his biology test."
