Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on her homework packet. I checked her work from school. Tonight, she was to write a story to go with a picture of a girl looking at a very large cracked egg in the grass. It took 55 minutes to discuss what she saw, what could have happened and what to write in her story. She needed work differentiating between d and b as she wrote. This was our first writing activity. She also read Marley, Snow Dog that she had begun last week. She read the story she wrote to her father with great pride."
"Basic phonetics (pinyin) introduction, including 5 tones. Numbers (1 to 10, hundred, thousand, 10 thousand). Introduction of simplified and traditional (complicated) characters. Introduction of structure(radicals) of characters. About a dozen simple characters. Stress order of strokes when writing. Discuss which book will be used in future sessions."
"Today, the student and I continued preparing for her chapter three exam. We were able to complete her study packet rather quickly, and then moved on to the chapter four packet. We are now working on finding asymptotes. She is doing very well on this, and seems to be much more confident in this chapter for that reason. Great to see!"
"We focused on science and reading and made some good headway on both. I think the student is well positioned to get the score she's aiming for in two weeks, and her hard work has really paid off. As she continues to practice, she should just focus on timing and prioritizing which questions to answer."
"The student and I took a practice math test from the SSAT section. I reviewed the answers with her. We also reviewed fractions, decimals, and percents."
"The student and I worked on commands in the informal (tu) form. We practiced both negative and affirmative commands. She did very well and remembered even the most tricky stem changing and irregular verbs. I reminded her to take her time and think about what is being asked of her. I think that she will do very well. Good luck!"
