Today she brought her textbook which has been delivered this week. And we looked over the chapters quick and understood it is a mathematics for statistics. We went over the 2nd chapter about add, subtract, divide and multiply fractions and did several exercises on that chapter. After that we checked over her homework she has been assigned and had some questions on specific problems and we addressed them over. Next we continued with next chapter about center of a data (mean, median, mode) We did a couple examples on each center of a data terms. At the end she has been assigned with homework on mean, median, and mode.

Tutoring review by Tami in Middleton, WI
This is our last session before the exam. The student seems un-phased by the pending test. He's not nervous which is great. Since there was no homework to complete, we moved straight into review of the year. We started with modeling some 2-digit by 2-digit multiplication. Using some online worksheets we modeled the answers to some word problems. We also had a discussion about the possibility of an answer. For example if we know that the sum of a triangles angles is always 180 degrees, and we have an angle labeled 40 and another labeled 120, it is impossible for the missing angle's measurement to be 90 degrees. This lead into a discussion about ways to do a quick self check of all our answers by thinking about each word problem logically and drawing models of the given parameters. We covered place value, triangle types, dot plots, area, and perimeter. He did very well in the post review game session. He seemed to really enjoy the games on area vs. perimeter. While he still has some confidence issues with multiplication, I think he will do well on the exam.

Tutoring review by Charles in Middleton, WI
Today we focused mainly on limits, including limits of rational functions and trigonometric functions. The student seemed to understand each problem as we worked through them, although a little more time was needed for a few trig ones. Good strategies for limits of rational functions include factoring, trying to eliminate the denominator, and then plugging x into the function. For trig, it's trickier, but manipulating trig identities will usually lead somewhere. Often the most important thing is confidence, especially with keeping a motivated mindset when faced with a seemingly difficult problem. Once we get a solid understanding of functions and limits, I would like to work on strategies for increasing the student's speed.

Tutoring review by Mike in Middleton, WI
The student and I had a productive session this afternoon and it was great getting to know him. We worked through his PSAT book, and completed the first chapter. We covered linear equations this afternoon which included slope, y-intercept, solving linear equations, and understanding linear equations in word problems. He seemed to struggle with doing some of the simple math calculations, and often rushed through his work to get to the right answer. When prompted though, he was easily able to correct, and take in new information about seeing different ways to solve problems.
