We read a story and some poems from a third grade reader I brought, and did work with phonics. We read and answered the questions at the end of the story. We are working on sounding out longer words and working on common letter groupings and their pronunciation.

Tutoring review by Wesley in La Jolla, CA
We started by getting access to his computer based education system. It took us about an hour to  get him signed up and into the program. We worked on getting three assignments done. His first was a personal statements work sheet so his professor might get to know him, followed by a text book release and agreement form and then a rounding worksheet that took us about twenty minutes. This first one was a review of previous concepts but since it has been a while for  the student, he  needed  a bit  more than just a review, which I'll keep in mind for the next lesson. When we go over lessons, I'm going to sit down and teach him as opposed to just going over the problems, assuming he's had the material before.

Tutoring review by Kim in La Jolla, CA
Reviewed the student's homework. She did well and was able to find a word for each root word and suffix. We then reviewed strategies for the essay. We discussed various prompts, her opinion, and different examples she could use. We listed events and books she would feel comfortable writing about and including in an essay. We then reviewed percents. We also worked on a reading comprehension passage. Her homework is to time herself for 30 minutes and work on the given essay topic.

Tutoring review by Jasmine in La Jolla, CA
I looked over the practice sessions the student had done over the past week, and most of them were correct! We went over a few more sections of science practice tests. I tried to go a little more slowly through these so that the student could practice the process that we are establishing. We also did a few math problems. I asked him to do a few more sections of the science on his own and to take his time but also keep track of how long it takes him so I have an idea of how much time he is spending on each question. I also asked him to start memorizing some of the math formulas we've been writing down as we go.
