Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We began by reviewing the addition of two two-digit numbers using touch math. Then, we briefly reviewed the concept of a number bond of 10 and adding all of the numbers within a number family. The student was quickly able to do her addition without any errors, but needed a little prompting in order to work through every variation of the problems with the number bonds of 10. Then, I introduced subtraction with manipulatives, which she seemed to pick up rather quickly. In terms of math, if she could practice one problem of manipulative subtraction, one number bond of ten, and a couple of addition problems every night, that would be ideal. She then began working with our phoneme cards for the first time and we got through all 26 letters and several diphthongs and digraphs. In our reading, I reviewed these sounds with her and we used them in our reading. Since she had read so many level B books at home, we only read one level B book and progressed to two level C book, which is her new instructional level. She should read level C books for half an hour with her father, and she can listen to books up to level F."
"Throughout this tutoring session, we worked on various reading comprehension skills, such as previewing the text, making predictions, retelling a story in the correct order, and decoding words. We also worked on fluency skills. I left two practice books with the student to read in preparation for our next session."
"During this session, I assessed the student to what academic level he is on. He was assessed on pre-primer and primer sight words. I also assessed his reading fluency. The session went very well."
