Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered time management strategies for taking the reading section of the ACT. These strategies included selecting passages based on comfort level, prioritizing questions based on their difficulty, and the optimal amount of time that should be spent on each part of the section in order to finish the whole test. Since reading quicker and more efficiently is a skill that needs to be developed, I suggested that he complete one more practice test using the same time management strategies before our next tutoring session. If he is still scoring low using the strategy we went over, then I will devise a strategy for him to cover 3 out of the 4 passages more thoroughly while still having time to answer the last 10 questions."
"Worked with the student on Reading and Science section questions. Also reviewed coordinate geometry and plane geometry problems. Also worked on verb-subject agreement and showed student how to recognize subjects when not directly next to the verb."
"During this session, the student walked me through all of the prep that she's already completed in studying for the SAT. This included a walk-through of all the materials she's acquired through prep courses and other sources, showing me the breakdown of her scores on the practice tests she's completed, looking at the questions that prevented her from getting very high scores on those sections, and discussing the strategies that she's been employing. I explained to her that we will start next week by having her do some diagnostic passages and questions so that I can better understand her thought process while approaching various questions of all difficulty levels. I can already tell that she tends to freeze when she is presented with long, wordy questions, which prevents her from being able to dig in and pick out the core of the question and realize that it is not that complicated. She has also been given some strategies that seem to confuse rather than positively guide her on the test, and we will work towards developing strategies that are tailored to her learning and test-taking styles. I thought this session went very well, and I am looking forward to working with the student. She is dedicated to succeeding on the SAT and asked that I give her homework assignments after each session to help her with time management and ensure that she is working on SAT prep outside of our sessions."
