Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"After some preliminary discussion of the upcoming schedule, we began by discussing the exercise I had assigned last time (involving passages and writing questions). We spent some time during the session talking through the next steps of the process. I think some things were clarified during this work - I attempted to stress the way in which multiple-choice questions will often have two choices that could be correct, but it is your job to find the one that is STRONGER (through analyzing the deliberate differences in the answer choices). I assigned him some more work on this project, and we will continue our progress with it during our next session. We then reviewed the homework questions. His results in the math questions were strong once again. While there is still room to grow, I am beginning to see a better consistency develop in his ability to successfully analyze and work through the math questions. There is still room for improvement in his critical reading results. We spent some brief time discussing the results and planned to continue the discussion next time. We are taking his first full practice exam this coming Saturday, and the results of this exam will be the most telling piece of information I've seen about where he has progressed and where we still need to focus. However, based on his work from our last few sessions, it seems to me that the passage-based questions in the critical reading section are the areas where he can show the most improvement. I am hopeful the exercise he and I discussed will assist in this goal, and I will certainly be keeping an eye on this particular section moving forward."
"Worked through practice SAT to continue to introduce strategies for each problem type. Discussed outlining response to essay prompt, and m-c reading, writing, and math."
"We covered the Science section of the ACT; we went over strategies for time management, strategies for identifying types of questions and how to answer them, and we did some practice questions. The student told me her scores in Science and Math, the two areas in which she had the most trouble. The student seemed to be struggling the most with answering the harder questions on the test; she had no trouble identifying them."
