Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student wanted to learn more about algebra, so we spent most of our time reviewing the diagnostic test of the algebra text he brought. He is very bright and has a very advanced grasp of math; clearly he enjoys it and this is part of why he learns it very quickly."
"We covered root factorization and implementing roots in solving geometric problems. I gave the student some additional problems on how to approach solving for roots that are quicker and less likely to be prone to mistakes; the problems I provided were to help teach intuition. We reviewed some history homework."
"The student is continuing to work on practice AP Calculus problems to prepare for the AP exam. Today, we reviewed some calculator multiple choice problems as well as some free response problems. She is slowly gaining more confidence in answering some of the questions on her own."
"We covered equations and inequalities. The student was very engaged. I told him to practice the basics. He got a 100% on the quiz, and this was a great step forward."
"Today the student did the vast majority of the homework for the section introducing the concept of polynomials. Based on the marks on his previous homework packet, I had him focused on "showing the work" when addressing each type of question, specifically for the first vs. second vs. third differences leading into cubics and the number of concavity changes in a graph indicating the degree of the polynomial that formed it. We also spent some time dealing with end behavior."
"We first reviewed piecewise functions. The student already had a solid understanding and just needed help with graphing. We then spent the rest of the session reviewing rational expressions and how to simplify them. I showed him the importance of factoring and how to do so. We ended the session reviewing a previous test concerning rational expressions."
