Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student worked on finishing his extra credit homework for the English class. And then we went on ahead and started doing some practice math problems. I taught him the surface area formula and how to use it. He understood the concept, but I don't think he is comfortable with it yet; he just needs more practice. This is a new concept for him, so is understandable that he is going to need some more practice. I believe that with some practice, which I have assigned, he will get it."
"The student worked on completing her two pink assignments. We went over past concepts while she was doing the assignment, like solving and graphing inequalities, solving system of equations, writing equations of a line, simplifying expressions by the exponent rules, multiplying polynomials, and factoring. I think on some of these concepts, like factoring and writing equations of a line, she did very good job. She did need some more work on solving system of equations and graphing inequalities which we can work on in our next session. She said she will work on the quadratic equations by herself, which is the same as factoring them and then solving them. Overall, she did good work on most of the past concepts but there are a couple of concepts that we have to work on. We'll work on them in our next session."
"Today's session started with a quick review of basic factoring with an emphasis on GCF. I then taught the student about special products and how to factor by grouping. She seems to have a satisfactory general understanding of both. We also went over the definition of a quadratic expression and the method for factoring those that have a leading coefficient of 1. She has several homework problems for each concept covered today. On Monday, we will go over "a/c" factoring and start learning about the characteristics of quadratic equations."
"At this session, we had a review about compound interest and multiple-step problems, The student needed help with both. After reviewing the concepts, he got the right answer for the problems and the reason for that answer. We are looking for different explanations about compound interest so he can get the difference between compound and simple interest. I left him more exercises about multiple-step problems."
"We went over the student's math assignment. I'm so proud of her for figuring out most of the problems on her own. She remembered the topics from the last time we met, and it showed. Adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing fractions was a breeze for her. She had some tests I helped her study for, and I think this was the best tutoring session by far."
"We covered Chapter 6 subject matter for the student's test on Friday. She was having some trouble with function problems and inverse functions, so we went over those thoroughly and did many practice problems so she could see how they are set up. She always has a great attitude toward her work. I stressed to her that it would be very helpful for her to take as many notes for her classes as possible, because it will help her to remember the material better when she repeatedly sees something. I think she will do very well on her algebra test!"
