Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered solving for unknowns in radical and quadratic equations and finding equations, domains, and ranges for inverse functions. The student had some difficulty with the concepts initially, but at the end of the session, she demonstrated a much better understanding."
"The student is beginning to study bivariate data and scatter plots in class. Her homework wasn't too extensive, and we discussed the meaning of positive and negative relationships. We also discussed organization of study material and how she is adjusting to traditional school. She seems to have a good head on her shoulders."
"The student has a test tomorrow, so we went over a practice test tonight that her teacher gave her. We worked on concepts such as finding the amount of a tip for a certain priced meal, finding the full amount of an item when given the sale price, and finding the interest on a money amount over a certain period of time. For all of these concepts, she had to multiply and divide fractions. Overall, she got the concepts and knew the steps to take in order to solve the problems. I showed her how to use a straight edge so she will only be looking at one row of numbers at a time. She said that was very helpful."
"Tonight we worked on preparing the student for tomorrow's quiz on hypothesis tests and procedures for working with two proportions. She had missed some class and wanted to run through all of the details. Once I did that, her command was strong and she did an excellent job on the very complex practice problem I had her do. At the end, she said she felt good about the quiz and didn't have any lingering questions."
"The student worked on her math homework. She worked on simplifying expressions and solving equations with variables. She needed help with the distribution property using variables. I had her practice multiplying monomials with single digit numbers until she felt comfortable with it. Then we started multiplying polynomials by single-digit numbers to get used to the distributive property and how it worked. She was able to solve the equations and simplify expressions by the end of the session."
"The student and I covered linear functions, writing 2-variable functions, slope, and operations of functions. He did very well on the review of these topics. I am confident he will do well on his exam tomorrow. He has an amazing attitude towards math and wants to learn."
