Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I continued with resonance. She showed great progress and by the end was answering the problems correctly and without my help. I gave her practice problems to do over the weekend. The problems are more difficult and lengthy, but I have confidence she can do it. Then we reviewed VSEPR and will be continuing from there on Monday."
"The student and I started reviewing her material for her organic chemistry class. Specifically, we went over nomenclature problems, resonance, hybridization, and functional groups. Was a great first session, and I look forward to meeting with the student again in the future!"
"We discussed Ka, Kb, pKa, pKb, and more Ksp. The student needed help with Ka, Kb and connecting those to the concentration of H+, so we went over those in detail. Her conceptual level is solid. There is no reason for her to score anything below 95% in this topic."
"Today we discussed the Esterification Lab report and how the calculations were obtained. We reviewed ICE tables from gen chem briefly to refresh on topic and then worked though his lab report. We then began a discussion on naming esters and gave a few examples to test his knowledge."
"We covered a variety of organic chemistry 1 mechanisms for her upcoming test. She seemed fairly confident in the material, but struggled with some of the nomenclature. I left her to go over the problems that we went over and she was having issues with such as the retrosynthesis reactions. I think she has a good grasp on diels alder reactions and did a good job of reviewing her previous problems with HNMR questions."
"We covered some homework problems on IR spectroscopy, H-NMR, C-NMR, mass spec, and UV-vis spec. He was struggling with figuring out how to interpret molecules from the mass spectroscopy data given. He was very appreciative of the material covered. We talked about how to use the IR spec chart given and knowing some functional groups and mass spec numbers right off the bat to save time and guesswork in the problems. He has an exam on Friday, and we will be meeting weekly on Thursdays."
