Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered more math review for the student's final exams Chapters 1-5. We focused on developing his reading comprehension, and "math-translation" skills. His actual arithmetic is getting quite strong. He has shown significant improvement there."
"Started with a very brief review of what we covered the previous day (radical equations, quadratic equations, and completing the square). Goal for today was to: 1) adequately cover polynomials and different strategies for finding potential roots for polynomials of the nth power, 2) Go over matrices. Spent most of the time on the details of polynomials and techniques covered in the student's textbook (and a few neat tricks from outside sources). I was able to successfully convey very handy mnemonics for matrix multiplication and calculating the determinant of a 3x3 matrix that she was able to understand and memorize very easily. Since this will be my last meeting with the student (final exam coming up next week), I just wanted to leave with a few thoughts: I sincerely think she has a good head on her shoulders, especially for her age. She is able to understand concepts relatively quickly and can intuit certain logical conclusions that follow."
"We reviewed the student's test book word problems. We then reviewed her homework assignment and the sections she's taken from the book."
"I covered derivatives of hyperbolic functions. The student did well differentiating hyperbolic functions especially when chain rule or other rules are required. She was very positive towards the material, though she needs more frequent practice."
"We covered extreme values, inflection points, and graphing functions. We focused on strategies involving how to use such values to find intervals where functions were increasing/decreasing and intervals of concavity."
"Today the student and I covered more linear algebra; specifically we discussed the definition of a basis and then looked at finding the basis for the column and null spaces of a matrix. The tutoring went well and she asked good questions. Moreover, we were able to clarify some information and in general make a lot of progress."
