Carefully selected, highly-credentialed Physiology tutors in Missouri City, TX
"
I first started tutoring as a volunteer for middle school students who were struggling in math. Over the years, I've worked with students on various subjects ranging from Spanish (my mother is from Mexico City) to history.
I've always enjoyed working with people, and I love being able to instill confidence and hope!
In my free time, I like to explore Houston and the globe! My next trip will hopefully be to South America in the Spring!."

"In the past when I tutored elementary school students, my style tended to be one of encouragement. My primary goal is to nurture a sense of accomplishment and pride in the student, so that they may eventually find themselves engrossed in their studies with little to no need for a tutor. In essence, I try to impart my own passion for learning on the student. Of course the strategy varies with each student: perhaps an athlete student would be better driven by competition, while an artsy child may enjoy discovering that mathematics can really be looked at like a beautiful foreign language. Outside of math and science, I do also speak/write in ...

"My experience tutoring includes working as a Teacher's Assistant (TA) in a college level introductory biology lab, working as a Whitman College Writing Center tutor, and volunteering as a TA in a 10th grade biology classroom. Equally valuable to my tutoring ability is my experience as a successful student; as stated above, I graduated summa cum laude with honors in my major. I know what it takes to get straight As in college, and I am a firm believer that many students could benefit from the study skills I learned and the resources I collected in my quest to be an outstanding student. Additionally, the good rapport I establish with my ...

"While I have excelled throughout my academic career, I myself have struggled with test anxiety and with "keeping up" in more advanced classes. I know what it is to work HARD for a grade! I believe this makes me a better tutor, as I can truly empathize with my clients and their struggles. I believe many students lack confidence in their own abilities and give up discouraged if they don't "get it" as quickly as their peers. I enjoy helping clients realize their own abilities and talents and seeing their confidence levels rise.."

I have experience in working with students ranging from children in pre-academic years to young adult in pursuit of a college degree. During my undergraduate years, I was involved in the founding and management of a program tutoring youth who had classroom troubles or learning disabilities such as dyslexia and ADD. "So, all in all, I've been in Houston for about a good 5 years. I grew up in a suburb of Dallas called Garland. I started tutoring in my senior year of high school when I joined PALs, which is a peer assistance program. "DeBakey High School for Health Professions in Houston, Texas. It was there that I really found my niche in both science and math, where AP Physics and AP Calculus were my favorites. I later went to Howard University, in Washington D.C., where I majored in Biology, but I later discovered that I didn’t quite satiate my curiosity for science. After college, I went to school part-time, at the University of Houston."

"This led me to become fascinated with how people learn, and how learning systems can be designed to help them succeed at every step along the way. My favorite subject to tutor is mathematics, at any level through calculus. During college I tutored a variety of subjects, from arithmetic to the SAT and the MCAT. I am good at explaining and breaking things down in multiple ways -- words, pictures, analogies -- to make concepts clear. Currently I am in my 3rd year of medical school at UT Houston. Because of my school schedule, I am primarily available for tutoring on the weekends.." ...

"I love Spanish and literature, particularly literature in Spanish, and editing in both English and Spanish is something I enjoy doing. I love asking “why” questions and pushing students to understand their academic purpose as well as the right answer! I have studied and done biological research in the field (as well as in the lab) in three different countries, so it's no surprise that I love traveling, living in new places, and learning about new cultures. I have always kept up a strong work ethic to help me succeed in school, even while I was studying abroad in Germany and Peru, and this is also something I try to promote in my students. I try to ...
