Tutoring review by Julia in Lower Burrell, PA
Today was the student and my first session. We spent the majority of it getting to know each other, and getting to know the material he's learning in school. We talked about some of the strategies I like using for reading and vocabulary, and we also talked about his math. We spent the last half hour doing his math homework, which was solving inequalities. I helped him with a few concepts, and he was able to finish up the assignment on his own. I left him with 5 words to do vocabulary for, and we ended with setting up our schedule for the next couple of weeks.

Today's session covered more stoichiometry problems in Chemistry using balanced chemical equations and mole ratios. The student was able to follow along. The biggest caution is that the problems are multi-stepped with many opportunities to make errors and carry them through the calculations.

Tutoring review by Mark in Lower Burrell, PA
Student 1: First two hours with the student focused on completing a review paper for an upcoming exam. We covered several topics applicable to polynomials. The student has a good handle on the FOIL method, but struggles with factoring. I highly recommended that he review his notes and past homework assignments to better understand (especially factoring methods when there are 4 terms in the expression instead of just three). Student 2: Last hour with the student involved finishing a chemistry review sheet. Topics included dimensional analysis, converting from grams to moles, using molar ratios and getting empirical formulas from mass percents. Although she understands the concepts better now, I would recommend her practicing a few more problems with the mass percents; otherwise she is doing well.

Tutoring review by Jose in Lower Burrell, PA
The student is getting ready for her precalculus test this Friday. She told me she was having trouble with some chapters, specifically with composition of functions, finding the inverse of a function, and finding the difference quotient. Last night, we went over those subjects, and she understood them really well. We did at least two examples of every subject, so that she could keep them, and study the material if she had any doubt. She was having trouble with the steps involved solving the problems. We went over the steps, we organized them, and solved the problems in the proper order. Then, after we went over the steps and the proper order, she seemed to understand them all better. Now that it was more organized, she solved most of the example problems by herself. Finally, I advised her to solve some more problems from her textbook, so that she will be ready for any type of problem on her test.

The student completed his assignment over factoring rational expressions and working with exponents. We reviewed for his upcoming quiz. He has good grasp of the process for solving the problems; his errors tend to be in the calculations themselves. We talked about slowing down while working and ways to double check calculations.

Today the student and I worked on fundamentals of velocity and acceleration. We went over a worksheet covering the topics in order to review for his upcoming quiz on Tuesday. He picked up velocity concepts quickly but was more slow to understand acceleration. We are going to work more on it in the coming days.
